Yonex Denmark Open: Daren Liew demolishes Sho Sasaki to storm into Men’s Singles quarter-final

Daren Liew, one of the most talented and elite shuttlers from Malaysia, delivered a phenomenal performance on court and secured a place in Men’s Singles quarter-final after crushing Japan’s Sho Sasaki in second round contest at Yonex Denmark Open 2012 in Odense, on Thursday, October 18.

The in-form Daren, who is World Number 29 in Men’s Singles category, left all bad memories behind and put up staggering show against the fifth seeded Sasaki and easily wrapped up victory in an outstanding fashion.

Daren was underdog in this second round clash as Sasaki is considered one of the most dedicated and spirited shuttlers in the world of badminton.

However, Malaysian shuttler defied all odds and played to his maximum potential while staying positive and aggressive on court and he managed to beat Sasaki in straight sets with a huge margin in just 35 minutes.

On the contrary, the fifth seeded Sasaki could not put up strong show as he failed to manipulate the loopholes of his rival and eventually lost the match without putting up strong show on court.

In the starting set of this contest, the lower ranked Daren showed aggression and took over the control from opening points.

The in-form Malaysian shuttler was on a different level on court as he played with confidence and took a reasonable 11-8 lead until the break.

After the one-minute interval, Daren did not let his Japanese opponent to match the pace of rallies at any stage and eventually managed to end up the first set with a striking 21-17 score on the board.

In the following game, Sasaki tried to give a good fight in starting points but he failed to maintain the speed and started to struggle in finding gaps.

In the meanwhile, Daren continued his brilliant run on court and again managed smart lead until the one-minute break.

After the mid-game interval, Daren did not slow down his speed and maintained his domination in the arena which helped him to end up the set with a 21-14 score on the board.

The impressive Daren won this second round contest against Sasaki in 35 minutes with a convincing margin or 21-17 and 21-14.
