Lee Chong Wei advances after a little wobble in first round at Denmark Open Premier Super Series

Malaysia’s mega star Lee Chong Wei proved his superior class in the Men’s Singles first round but not before a little wobble near the end of the contest against his local rival Viktor Axelsen at the Yonex Denmark Open Premier Super Series 2012 on Wednesday, October 17, in Denmark.

The world’s top player, who is also top seed in Men’s Singles main draw of the tournament, played to his maximum potential and remained successful in beating his talented opponent Axelsen in just 28 minutes.

Chong Wei started his run in a dominating manner without showing any mercy to his lanky Danish rival in opening set but he had to put in extra effort to avoid a third game and managed to win it in straight sets with a decent score.

In the meanwhile, the local hero Axelsen was shocked with the punishing treatment he received from his World Number One opponent in the first set.

However, Danish played managed to put up strong show in the following game and stayed ahead until the ending points when he lost his focus and eventually crashed out without winning any game.

In the first game, the top seeded Malaysian shuttler played in his usual calm and quick style by taking the bird early from all areas and managed to set up a staggering gap of 11-4 until the end of opening half.

After the mid-game interval, Chong Wei continued his top class performance without slowing down the pace of rallies and easily bagged the set with an inspiring margin of 21-8.

However, it was a difference case in the second set when Axelsen also showed his brilliance and played with impressive speed and precision which helped him to stay ahead of Chong Wei at 11-6 until the break.

Danish shuttler continued his marvellous play and reached at 16-10 when Chong Wei unleashed his hard-to-learn smashes from both sides of rear-court area and made the score levelled at 17-17.

Malaysian player did not spare any chance for his opponent at this crucial stage and wrapped up with game with a decent score of 21-18.

Chong Wei sent Axelsen packing in first round of the tournament with a dominating 21-8 and 21-18 score on the board.
