Sourabh Varma destroys local hopes in Men’s Singles first round at Yonex Denmark Open 2012

India’s elite shuttler Sourabh Varma proved that he has achieved the highest skill set by showing a great performance in Men’s Singles first round when he thrashed the local hero Peter Hoeg Gade at the Yonex Denmark Open 2012 on Wednesday, October 17, in Odense.

The un-seeded Sourabh, who is currently positioned at number 32 in Men’s Singles world ranking, showed his staggering class on court while remaining positive and patient.

Indian shuttler destroyed the local hopes by beating the World Number Eight Peter Gade who is one of the most successful and experienced shuttlers in the world of badminton.

Sourabh was impressive in his shot selection and execution as he did not let his experienced opponent to dominate the pace of rallies and eventually earned victory in straight games with a good margin on score board.

While talking about his victory, Sourabh said, “It’s a dream come true, to beat him. While preparing for the match, I didn’t want to worry that I was playing Gade. I just concentrated on playing my game.”

On the other hand, the higher ranked Peter Gade could not put up strong show in his last appearance in Denmark Open, as he will quit playing at competitive badminton in the end of this year.

Danish shuttler failed to put up strong show against his Lower ranked Indian challenger and remained unable to advance into the next round which was quite shocking for the local fans.

However, Peter Gade appreciated the impressive play of the young Indian and also said that Sourabh will be a good prospect for India.

While talking about the game plan of Sourabh, the Danish shuttler said, “He played intelligently. He was very patient and didn’t rush in as I expected him to. He looks like a good prospect for India, but he will have to be consistent.”

Throughout the first round clash in Men’s Singles category, the young and passionate Sourabh put up staggering show of remarkable badminton.

Indian shuttler employed his elevated skills and maintained consistency on court which helped him in winding up the clash in straight sets with a 21-18 21-14 score on the board.
