Xu Chen, Ma Jin outshine Oliver Roth, Johanna Goliszewski in opening round of Yonex Denmark Open

The prime Mixed Doubles pair Xu Chen-Ma Jin served notice of its supremacy in the opening round of Yonex Denmark Open by thrashing Oliver Roth-Johanna Goliszewski on October 16, 2012.

World number one Chinese team, who is also top seeded duo in this Premier Super Series, took just 27 minutes to register a straight-set win with a favourable result of 21-14 and 21-13.

This encounter was staged at local badminton arena of Odense, Denmark and a decent number of people gathered to encourage the spirited shuttlers.

Xu Chen and Ma Jin set the foundation of their supremacy by clinching the very first match point and made best out of this initial advantage to cast out the German campaigners.

The twosome of Oliver-Johanna was no comparison to the Chinese maestros as they stayed at lower end throughout this tussle.

In first set of the match, they looked completely off colour and dropped many valuable points straight away.

Their below par performance allowed the opposing team to establish an unassailable lead with 7-2 margin.

Xu Chen and Ma Jin did not drop their pace and finished first half of the set with an indomitable score position of 11-6.

Later part of the game saw them injecting more intensity in their attack to strengthen their grip. They mounted pressure by registering 17-11 total and then magnified the impact with a staggering knock of 21-14.

The second set, which proved a decider later, remained interesting just until half time as the German campaigners failed to withstand the intensive invasion of their higher ranked competitors.

Initially, Oliver and Johanna showed commendable fighting spirit and stayed close on points table until 8-8 but then few back-to-back mistakes brought them down.

Xu Chen and Ma Jin capitalised on their rivals’ blunders and pocketed eight points in a row. This deficit proved final blow for the opposing team and the Chinese players cruised to victory with great ease.

They maintained a notable difference of eight points and placed a winning margin of 21-13. This win took them into pre quarter-finals where the Korean pair Kim Ki Jung-Kim So Young is waiting for them.
