Tine Baun tames Poon Lok Yan to clear second round of 2012 Yonex Denmark Open

Women’s Singles shuttler Tine Baun relished full benefits of home ground and secured a quarter-final berth in Yonex Denmark Open on Thursday, October 18, 2012.

She overpowered Poon Lok Yan of Hong Kong in the second round of the event and proceeded into the next round of this Premier Super Series.

This 29-minute encounter was staged at local badminton arena of Odense and Tine Baun registered a straight-set victory with an impressive result of 21-19 and 21-13.

Though, she took some time to get settled and struggled a bit in the beginning but then she showed a transformed character in the crucial moments and locked the honour.

World Number six player proved herself a late bloomer in the first set as she remained at the lower end until third quarter of the set but then struck hard when it mattered.

On the other hand, Lok Yan completely dominated the establishing rallies and placed a mountainous figure of 11 before the interval.

She alarmed her rival by gathering eleven points in a row and it was felt that the second half of set will be a dead contest but Tine Baun proved all prediction wrong.

The Danish campaigner made a swift progress and narrowed the gap with 12-16 margin. She did not drop this pace and steadily gathered valuable points.

She gained a decent advantage by piling up 18-16 total in third quarter of the set and then capitalised this lead to win first set with 21-19 score on the board.

Next game remained interesting until first couple of rallies as Tine Baun did not give her challenger even a single chance to proceed and put her expedition to a halt.

She played cautiously in the beginning and allowed her competitor to stay close on points table until 5-5 but then she established an unassailable lead with six uninterrupted points.

After one-minute break, Tine Baun injected more intensity in her attack and blew away Lok Yan with a staggering knock of 21-13.

However, real challenge awaits her in the quarter-final round as she is scheduled to meet the Indian badminton queen Saina Nehwal.
