Wong Wing Ki powers his way to second round of 2012 Yonex Denmark Open – Badminton News

Hong Kong’s spirited shuttler Wong Wing Ki played with great precision and paved a path to the pre quarter-finals of Yonex Denmark Open on Wednesday, October 17, 2012.

World Number 19 player stamped Scott Evans in the opening round match by registering decisive figures of 17-21, 21-12 and 21-16 after a gruelling effort of 49 minutes.

Though, he looked off colour in the first set but he managed to revive his lost touch in the ending two games and saved his honour.

On the other hand, the Irish campaigner raised his chances by claiming the opening match point but then squandered his effort when he needed it the most.

Scott Evans started in perfect manner and established a decent lead in 7-5 total. He maintained this rhythm and finished first half of the set with a respectable score position of 11-9.

After the mid-game break, Scott prevailed in five uninterrupted rallies and strengthened his grip. He made some unforced errors which resulted in 16-15 margin but he widened the gap by gathering three consecutive points.

Wing Ki could not come out of this deficit and surrendered after reading final result of 17-21.

However, he managed to make amends in very next game and won second set of the match with a huge difference of nine points.

The Hong Kong campaigner mounted pressure by pocketing six points in a row and magnified the impact with 11-5 total before the interval.

Later part of the game turned into a one-sided affair as Wing Ki did not spare any loop-hole and finished this crucial set with a significant lead.

He widened the gap with 18-9 and then left his competitor far behind by piling up a winning margin of 21-12.

Third set kept the audience intact just until the half time as it proved a dead contest after one-minute interval.

Both contenders pushed each other in all areas of the court but neither of them could enjoy a permanent lead until 10-10. At this stage, Wing Ki gathered some pace and cruised to victory with 21-16 total.

Now he will be up against Suppanyu Avihingsanon of Thailand in the pre quarter-finals of this tournament.
